§ Mr. Kenneth ClarkeThe Government announced last July, that we accepted the principle of a greater commitment to the public health advanced by the Chief Medical Officer's report on "Public Health in England" and that we would be taking a number of steps to carry forward its recommendations.
These include:
issuing general advice to health authorities on the main recommendations affecting their responsibilities including the preparation of annual reports and reviews of staffingthe establishment of a central health monitoring unit additional funding for an expansion of the epidemiologicalfunction of the communicable disease surveillance centerinitial work on updating the current law on infectious disease control.
