HC Deb 13 March 1989 vol 149 c110W
33. Mr. Hary Greenway

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport how many police are stationed on Underground trains and stations at any one time; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Portillo

The numbers of police officers on Underground trains and stations varies according to the time of day, but at 6 o'clock in the evening, on an average day, there would be about 80 British Transport police officers and 45 officers of the Metropolitan and City police forces on duty on the Underground.
