To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what recent investment he has recently approved for British Rail.

Mr. Portillo

Since 1 January my right hon. Friend has approved investment for 138 class 158 Sprinter express DMU vehicles for the provincial sector, 77 class 165 networker DMU vehicles and the electrification of the Cambridge-King's Lynn line, at a total cost of some £113 million.
