HC Deb 22 June 1989 vol 155 c248W
Mr. Flynn

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what representations the British Government has made and will be making to the Council of Europe concerning its current discussions on fur farming.

Mr. Donald Thompson

My officials attend these meetings at which recommendations for the welfare of fur-bearing animals are being elaborated. They are seeking to negotiate the most suitable recommendations for the welfare of these animals bearing in mind the Farm Animal Welfare Council's view that there is not enough evidence to set specific cage sizes and that further research is needed into some aspects of fur farming.
