HL Deb 16 June 1989 vol 508 c1691WA
Lord Northfield

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether, since officials of the Commission of the European Communities have refused to hold a meeting in London, they will seek to persuade the Commission to arrange a London meeting to discuss the proposed rules on game meat, particularly about deer, which are of greater importance to the United Kingdom than to other member states.

Baroness Trumpington

We were not aware that Commission officials had been invited to address a meeting of interested organisations in London. They have certainly met representatives of UK game interests in Brussels and we have encouraged all who have an interest in the Commission's draft proposals to make their views known to the Commission direct or through their European associations.

I have nothing further to add to my reply of 5th June 1989 (Official Report, 6th June, col. 713).
