HL Deb 16 June 1989 vol 508 cc1691-2WA
Lord Kennet

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they have examined reports of the study by Colin Buchanan & Partners into the relative costs of a Channel Tunnel terminal at Stratford and one at King's Cross; and whether in the light of the Buchanan studies they will require British Rail to examine this alternative route, and publish the results, before bringing any Bill relevant to a Channel Tunnel terminal before Parliament.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of Transport (Lord Brabazon of Tara)

I am aware that Colin Buchanan & Partners have carried out some work on this on behalf of the London Borough of Newham. The King's Cross Railways Bill, which would authorise the construction of an international terminal at King's Cross, was deposited in Parliament last November. It will be for British Rail to justify their choice during the Bill's passage through Parliament.
