HL Deb 13 June 1989 vol 508 c1414WA
Lord Merrivale

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What support they propose to give to the request, by the Government of Senegal, for the setting up of an international commission of inquiry into the recent events which occurred in Senegal and Mauritania, bearing in mind their note verbale sumitted to the United Nations and their approach to the chairman of the Organisation of African Unity.

The Minister of State for Defence Procurement (Lord Trefgarne)

The proposals for an international commission of inquiry predates the mediation which is now being undertaken by President Traore of Mali, currently chairman of the Organisation of African Unity. We wish President Traore every success in his initiative.
