The balance remaining in the Deposit Account at 31 March 1989, which is not liable to surrender to the Consolidated Fund, was £18,737,000. This sum includes £1,725,000 in respect of the Engineering and Technology Programme. Note: In addition a further £72,000 was transferred to the deposit account to meet expenditure by Universities for the Engineering and technology Programme. Other payments comprise £647,000 paid to the Rutherford and Appleton Laboratories (SERC) for networking projects.
