§ Mr. Anthony Coombs
To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he has received advice from the Advisory Board for the Research Councils in relation to the public expenditure survey for 1989; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Jackson
The advice is being published today and copies are available in the Library. I would like to express my appreciation to Sir David Phillips and the board for the work which has gone into its preparation. I shall be considering the advice in the normal way during the 1989 public expenditure survey discussions.
