HL Deb 27 July 1989 vol 510 c1668WA
Lord Rugby

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Who will be the members of the investigating body on future policy with regard to eye testing.

The Minister of State, Department of Health (Lord Trafford)

Future policy on sight testing is, of course, a matter for the Department of Health. I presume that the noble Lord is therefore referring to the proposals by the General Optical Council that the profession should itself review optical services. I understand that a start has already been made by establishing an Optical Services Audit Commission comprising:—

Mr. David Burt —Chairman
Mr. Richard Wilshin —Secretary
Dr. Ewan Page —Deputy Chairman
Miss Diana Rookledge —Lay member (General Optical Council)
Mrs. Elizabeth Stanton —Lay member (General Optical Council)
plus three ophthalmic advisers to be appointed by the ophthalmic profession.
