HL Deb 27 July 1989 vol 510 c1669WA
Lord Brougham and Vaux

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Which tenants, in addition to the secure tenants already provided for in the Housing Act 1988, will be able to vote in a housing action trust ballot.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of the Environment (Lord Hesketh)

Regulations have today been laid before Parliament under Section 61 of the Housing Act 1988. These prescribe certain categories of local authority tenants of houses or flats who, if living within the area proposed for designation as a HAT area, would be entitled to vote in a ballot or poll on the proposal. These additional categories are long leaseholders, business tenants, tenants of licensed premises and tenants in tied accommodation. Joint tenants would each be entitled to their own vote.
