asked Her Majesty's Government:

When they expect to announce the designation of further Special Protection Areas under Article 4 of the European Community Directive on the Conservation of Wild Birds (EEC79/409); which sites are currently subject to consultation by government officials; and in each case on what date the proposals were made by the Nature Conservancy Council.

Nine Special Protection Areas in England and Wales are currently the subject of consultation by government officials. The next classification will be announced as soon as these consultations have been satisfactorily completed. Details of the sites and the dates they were proposed by NCC are as follows:

The classification of sites in Scotland is the responsibility of the Secretary of State for Scotland.
