HL Deb 26 July 1989 vol 510 cc1553-4WA
Baroness Nicol

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What was the grant-in-aid given to the Nature Conservancy Council in each financial year since April 1986, at constant prices; and what was the bid made by the council in each of those years, also at constant prices.

Lord Hesketh

Details of the grant-in-aid given in each complete financial year since April 1986 are as follows:

Financial Year Grant-in-Aid £ million (Actual) Grant-in-Aid £million (1989/90 prices)
1986/87 32.118 38.263
1987/88 35.250 39.903
1988/89 38.950 41.092
The council submits a series of costed options for its future work in confidence to Ministers each year for discussion and it is not the Government's policy to reveal their details. The Government determine the level of grant-in-aid for the Nature Conservancy Council in the light of all relevant considerations and after discussion with the council of its corporate plan. The priorities for expenditure within the plan can, of course, vary from year to year.
