HL Deb 25 July 1989 vol 510 c1422WA
Lord Hylton

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will publish the comments and suggestions they received during and since the first formal review of the Anglo-Irish Agreement of 1985, and if not why not; and whether they will request the Irish Government to make a similar publication.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Northern Ireland Office (Lord Lyell)

Contributions to the review were sought on the customary basis that the question of publishing their contents was a matter for their authors. In at least one case a submission was subsequently published in this way. But it would not be appropriate for the Government to publish comments made on the review, nor to ask the Irish Government to do likewise. I can however say that we received a good number of responses and the suggestions made were carefully considered by Her Majesty's Government during the review process.
