42. Mr. Rooker

To ask the Secretary of State for Energy what steps he is taking to ensure that value for money is being obtained from the £26.5 million to be spent on advisers' fees to promote electricity privatisation.

Mr. Michael Spicer

The Department carefully evaluates the costs and benefits associated with each item of expenditure and seeks to negotiate the best possible price with advisers before entering into a contractual relationship.

45. Mr. Mullin

To ask the Secretary of State for Energy what representations he has received from environmental or conservation organisations on the privatisation of the electricity supply industry.

Mr. Michael Spicer

I have received a number of representations.
