HL Deb 20 July 1989 vol 510 c1029WA
Lord Hylton

asked Her Majesty's Government:

How much use is made by the courts of their existing powers to make treatment of addicts and alcoholics a condition of probation orders or to impose deferred prison sentences conditional on treatment; and what steps they are taking to ensure that the courts make use of their powers in all appropriate cases.

Earl Ferrers

This information is not available centrally. We encourage the courts to keep more offenders in the community. To be successful, treatment for drug and alcohol misuse needs the co-operation of the offender.
