HC Deb 05 July 1989 vol 156 c211W
38. Mr. McAllion

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland how many representations he has received concerning the practice of local councillors holding local authority employment in local authorities in Scotland.

Lord James Douglas-Hamilton

Thirty-four of those who responded to consultation about the Widdicombe report expressed views on this subject, as did seven of those who commented on the Government's response to that report or on the relevant provisions in the Local Government and Housing Bill. In addition, two individuals have made representations about the way in which they would be affected by those provisions.
