To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science what part he expects teaching and research in physics and chemistry to play in universities in the future; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Jackson

The University Grants Committee has recently published for consultation reports on the principles which might inform subsequent proposals for the rationalisation of physics and chemistry in universities. As in other subject reviews, the objective is to strengthen national provision in both teaching and research.
