To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science how many graduates entered industry during the latest year that figures are available; and what proportion this was of the total number of students graduating.

Mr. Jackson

In 1987, 16,600 first degree graduates in Great Britain entered industry. This accounted for 17 per cent. of the total first degree graduates of known destination in Great Britain. The destination of graduates from part-time courses in polytechnics and colleges is not obtained.
