To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will publish in theOfficial Report figures showing the percentage of pupils in primary and secondary schools in classes of 30 and over for each local education authority in England in rank order.

[holding answer 30 January 1989]: The percentage of pupils in classes of 30 and over in maintained primary and secondary schools in each local education authority in England in January 1988 ranked in order was as follows. The analyses relate to classes taught by one teacher during a selected period on the day of the schools census and do not necessarily represent the pattern of classes over the academic year as a whole.
