HL Deb 30 January 1989 vol 503 c978WA
Lord Hylton

asked Her Majesty's Government:

In how many cases has human food infected with listeria been traced to individual poultry producers or to other farms; in each such case, whether infected feeding-stuffs were involved; and what other possible sources are being investigated.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (Baroness Trumpington)

Listeria Monocytogenes is widely distributed in the environment so that the contamination of food could occur at almost any stage. I have no evidence that any of the cases of contamination of human food with listeria are associated with particular producers or feeding-stuffs used on farms.
