§ Mr. Peter BottomleyThe United Kingdom was not a member of the EEC when the existing Severn crossing was constructed in 1961–66.
The cost of construction of the Severn bridge alone was £ 63.8 million, and the Severn crossing as a whole (including the Wye bridge linking viaducts);£ 102.3 million, both at current prices.
