§ Mr. BatisteTo ask the Secretary of State for Transport what steps he is taking to update and amend the Public Utilities Street Works Act 1950 in line with the recommendations of the Horne committee.
§ Mr. Peter BottomleyWe have accepted most of the recommendations in the Horne report. Work is progessing well, in collaboration with the highway authorities and utilities, to produce specifications for reinstatements, a code of practice for diversionary works, arrangements for training and certification of workmen and a computerised street works register. Proposals for legislation are being drawn up with the benefit of advice from the street works advisory committee. A Bill will be introduced as soon as a suitable opportunity can be found.
