HL Deb 16 January 1989 vol 503 c102WA
Lord Sefton of Garston

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they are willing to contribute to an appraisal of the feasibility of a "landbridge" between Liverpool and the Channel Tunnel, perhaps on the basis of £l for each £1 raised locally.

Lord Brabazon of Tara

I understand that the Merseyside Chamber of Commerce and Industry and some other agencies in the North West have agreed to co-operate in a study of the transport implications for that region of the single European market and the Channel Tunnel. Government departments are ready to assist with information and advice. I hope other bodies in the region, especially in the private sector. will join in this initiative.
