§ Mr. Norman Lamont[holding answer 10 January 1989]: Only the age allowance given to single people and married men aged 65 and over is related to income. Where income exceeds a certain limit (£10,600 for 1988–89) the allowance is withdrawn by £2 for every £3 of additional income until the level of the basic single person's or married man's allowance is reached.
