HL Deb 27 February 1989 vol 504 c933WA
Baroness Lockwood

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What are the monthly figures since March 1987 for (a) the total output and (b) the supply to Steetley Refractories Ltd. of limestone from Coolscar Quarry Yorkshire Dales National Park.

Lord Hesketh

Under the terms of a planning consent issued by the Secretary of State for the Environment on 10th March 1987 and deemed to have begun on 10th June 1987, production of limestone from Coolscar Quarry shall not exceed 175,000 tonnes in any period of 12 consecutive months. Monitoring of the conditions attached to any planning consent is a matter for the local planning authority, which in this particular case is the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority. There is no requirement on the owners of the quarry or the planning authority to submit detailed information on sales to the Secretary of State. However, I understand from the national park authority that since 10th June 1987, sales of limestone from Coolscar Quarry have generally been consistent with the output limit although sales to Steetley Refractories have been below the level envisaged at the time of the public inquiry into the quarrying proposal. The detailed information requested is not available as it is commercially sensitive.
