To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what time has been allowed for consultation with interested parties during the current review of the procedures covering tree preservation orders; and what representations he has received asking him to extend it.

Mrs. Virginia Bottomley

It will be appropriate to carry out formal consultations if and when the Government put forward proposals for changes in the present legislation and procedures, and an adequate period of time would be allowed for that purpose. No representations have been received about the conduct of consultations.
