To ask the Secretary of State for Employment whether he intends to bring forward Government proposals to ban pre-entry closed shops.

Mr. Fowler

We announced in our White Paper "Employment for the 1990s" that we would examine the operation of the pre-entry closed shop over the coming months and review the steps employers take to use the freedom the law has given them to get rid of closed shop arrangements. This examination and review is currently taking place.
