HC Deb 13 February 1989 vol 147 cc19-20W
Mr. Wallace

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many representations he received with regard to the case of Marion Gaima; and how many replies or acknowledgements were sent.

Mr. Renton

Just over 1,000 letters, plus a small number of petitions, have been received about this case. Replies have been sent to 85 Members of Parliament, Members of the House of Lords, and Members of the European Parliament; two letters from Members of Parliament, which were received recently, have not yet received replies. Some of the correspondence from members of the public registering support for Miss Gaima did not call for a specific reply. One hundred and fifty-three acknowledgements and 131 replies to other official correspondence have been sent so far. We hope to reach a decision on the case shortly, and at that stage replies will be sent to the remaining letters as necessary.
