Mr. Martlew

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment how many prosecutions for breaches of the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act have been brought against companies involved in the equestrian and horse racing industry in each of the last five years for which records are available.

During the period 1 April 1983 to 31 March 1988 there were two prosecutions—one in 1986, and one in 1987—brought against companies involved in the equestrian and horse racing industry.

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment how many visits have been made to horse racing and equestrian establishments by the health and safety inspectorate, in each of the last five years for which records are available.
