Mr. Menzies Campbell

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence (1) what consideration he has given to the implications for the defence of the United Kingdom arising out of the construction of the Channel tunnel; and if he will make a statement;

(2) if he proposes to take any measures to protect the Channel tunnel against enemy action in time of war; and if he will make a statement.

The implications for the defence of the United Kingdom arising from the construction of the Channel fixed link, and the defence of the Channel fixed link itself, are under consideration as part of normal defence planning.

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what consideration he has given to the implication for the discharge of the United Kingdom's obligation to NATO arising out of the construction of the Channel tunnel; and if he will make a statement.
