§ Lord James Douglas-HamiltonOf the 159 respondents to the consultation paper "Scotland's Natural Heritage" expressing an opinion, 98 supported in principle the Government's proposal to bring forward legislation to merge the Countryside Commission for Scotland and the proposed Nature Conservancy Council for Scotland. They are listed in the table except for those who submitted comments in confidence.
Almost all respondents commented on a range of issues or sought assurances that the Government would address particular issues before finalising their proposals. These views will be taken into account and further consultation will be undertaken early next year.
