§ Mr. ChopeLocal authority figures for 1988–89 are not yet available. However, in 1987–88, local authority rent arrears amounted to £226 million or 5.7 per cent. of the total rent roll. This constituted a 15 per cent. increase over the arrears outstanding in 1986–87 of £195 million.
