To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what has been the rate increase for Basildon district council for each of the last three years.

Mr. Hunt

The change in the local rate for Basildon district council was 0.2 per cent. for 1987–88, minus 6 per cent. for 1988–89 and 57–2 per cent. for 1989–90.
