Lord Graham of Edmonton

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Which prisons have had their certified normal accommodation increased as a result of extension work between April 1987 and March 1989.

Earl Ferrers

Monthly returns provided by establishments indicate the changes (both temporary and permanent) to CNA, including those caused by refurbishment work. CNA increases attributable either wholly or in part in refurbishment, including extension work, were recorded at the following establishments in England and Wales for the period specified.

SOUTH EAST
Albany Hollesley Bay
Aldington Holloway
Brixton Kingston
Dover Lewes
East Sutton Park Maidstone
Feltham Northeye
Ford Standford Hill
SOUTH WEST
Channings Wood Gloucester
Dartmoor Portland
Dorchester Usk
Exeter
MIDLAND
Ashwell Lincoln
Birmingham Morton Hall
Foston Hall and North Sea Camp
Sudbury
NORTH

Although the increase for these establishments amounts to some 1,100 places, closures and other on-going work mean that this figure does not necessarily represent permanent net additions to the prison estate.
