HL Deb 18 April 1989 vol 506 cc765-6WA
Lord Graham of Edmonton

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether the Home Office is considering the grant of compassionate leave in respect of occupational stress for prison staff.

Earl Ferrers

Prison Service staff, who become unfit for duty because of a stress related condition, are normally entitled to sick leave. The need for compassionate leave does not therefore arise. The Prison Service recognises the importance of occupational health and is developing training material for use in establishments in order to help line managers and their staff to deal with stress more effectively.
