To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science what was the average cost of tuition fees per student for (i) medical courses, (ii) science courses and (iii) arts courses for each of the last 10 years in(a) cash terms and (b) real terms, with 1979 = 100, for (1) undergraduates and (2) postgraduates.

Tuition fees for full-time home and EC students are not differentiated by subject area. The standard maximum tuition fees eligible for reimbursement under the student awards arrangements have been:
