HC Deb 13 April 1989 vol 150 c636W
Mr. Fatchett

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science, further to his reply of 4 April,Official Report, column 121, what steps his Department took on learning that the literature of the grant-maintained schools trust had incorrectly described it as a registered charity.

Mrs. Rumbold

None. The grant-maintained schools trust is an independent body and it was for it to decide what steps to take. The trust was not described as a charity in any document issued by my Department.

Mr. Fatchett

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science, further to his reply to the hon. Member for Leeds, Central, 4 April,Official Report, column 121, when the discussions with the chairman and director of the grant-maintained schools trust were held; and what matters were discussed.

Mrs. Rumbold

My right hon. Friend and I met the chairman and director of the trust in October last year and in February this year. Matters discussed included the number of schools making inquiries to the trust about grant-maintained status and a possible future role for the trust in helping any schools approved for grant-maintained status prepare for their new role.
