To ask the Secretary of State for Wales how many of the planning applications to develop open-cast coal sites submitted in 1987–88 in Wales were for(a) land, which at the time of the application, was being used for agriculture, (b) land which at the time of the application, was being used for forestry, (c) previously undisturbed countryside, (d) land which had previously been mined and (e) land which was already derelict due to previous industrial activity; and, in each case, if he will name the sites and the acreage involved.
