What has been the annual expenditure on radioactive waste research and development by the United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority since 1954 in (a) historic costs and (b) present values.

Expenditure on radioactive waste management research and development by the United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority, funded by the Department of Energy, has been as follows:

Information for years before 1979–80 could only be provided at disproportionate cost. The authority also undertakes radioactive waste management research and development work on a commercial basis for other parts of the nuclear industry and for other Government departments. Total expenditure on radioactive waste management research and development from 1979–80 onwards is set out in the annual reports of the radioactive waste management advisory committee, copies of which have been placed in the Library.
