Mr. Darling

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will list for each country the number of(a) applications and (b) refusals of applications to enter the United Kingdom for (i) settlement and (ii) temporary purposes in (1) 1987 and (2) 1988.

[holding answer 14 March 1989]: The information requested is available centrally only for countries in the Indian sub-continent and Hong Kong. This information, and that for other countries on all applications for entry clearance granted and refused, is given in the following tables.
