§ Mr. Alex CarlileTo ask the Secretary of State for Wales what is his policy concerning the provision of rented accommodation for young people living in Wales; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. Grist[holding answer 28 October 1988]: I am concerned to ensure that there is an adequate supply of rented accommodation for young people in Wales. In addition to housing provided by local authorities I have asked the housing corporation to treat single people as a priority group. Deregulation provided for in the Housing Bill will increase the supply of accommodation in the traditional private rented sector and I am working with local authorities to improve the standards and safety of existing houses in multiple occupation. Vulnerable single young people are entitled under the Housing Act 1985 to help from their local authority to secure accommodation.
