HL Deb 31 October 1988 vol 501 c74WA
Baroness Cox

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What are the provisional grading returns received from regional health authorities on 5th September and what are their own estimates of the cost of the clinical grading award for the United Kingdom.

Lord Hesketh

The Government have now provided an additional £138.5 million, in addition to the £803 million already set aside, to meet in full the estimated final costs for the UK as a whole of the nurses' pay settlement, including the clinical grading exercise.

The provisional grading returns received in September by the Department of Health from the English Regional Health Authorities (RHAs) have now been overtaken. Some RHAs are still in discussion with districts to resolve outstanding grading issues. RHAs have been asked to submit their final grading returns to the department as soon as possible.
