HC Deb 31 October 1988 vol 139 cc511-5W
Mr. Rooker

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment if he will list the parliamentary constituencies on which the number of people out of work and claiming benefit declined by(a) less than 10 per cent. and (b) between 10 and 20 per cent. between August 1984 and August 1988, including in the data for each constituency the total for (i) August 1984, (ii) August 1988 and (iii) the percentage reduction.

Mr. Nicholls

The following information is in the Library. Table A shows the parliamentary constituencies in Great Britain where the number of unemployed claimants has fallen by less than 10 per cent. between August 1984 and August 1988 together with the number of unemployed in each constituency at the requested dates. Table B gives the corresponding figures for the constituencies where unemployment has fallen between 10 and 20 per cent. The figures are affected by the change in compilation of the count in March 1986 to reduce over-recording.
