HC Deb 31 October 1988 vol 139 c469W
Mr. David Porter

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will make a statement on how the implementation of the Education Reform Act 1988 is to be funded in Suffolk.

Mr. Butcher

The funding of education in Suffolk is for the local education authority to determine. However, the Goverment's spending plans for education in 1989–90 will give priority to those aspects of the service most affected by the Education Reform Act. Specific grants will also be available to support spending on activities relevant to the implementation of the Act: over £90 million of such expenditure will be supported through the education support grant programme and £65 million through the in-service teacher training grant scheme.
