HC Deb 31 October 1988 vol 139 cc548-9W
Mr. McCrindle

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport (1) if he will review methods of restructuring traffic within Britain's major cities; and if he will make a statement;

(2) what measures he proposes to take to improve traffic movement within the central areas of cities; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Peter Bottomley

Local highway authorities have wide-ranging powers to introduce appropriate traffic management measures in city centres. Computer technology is increasingly available for advanced traffic control systems. These can help to reduce congestion, as can the careful use of parking controls.
