HC Deb 28 October 1988 vol 139 cc431-2W
Mr. Amess

To ask the Prime Minister if Her Majesty's Government will support the overturning of the Zionism is Racism resolution (Resolution 3379 (XXX)) at the United Nations General Assembly; and if she will make a statement.

The Prime Minister

The United Kingdom (in common with most Western countries) voted against the United Nations General Assembly resolution 3379 in the General Assembly in November 1975. Since then we have consistently opposed the resolution but there is no specific provision for repealing United Nations resolutions, and in our judgment there is therefore little prospect of obtaining an effective counter resolution.

Mr. Amess

To ask the Prime Minister what representations she has received supporting the overturning of the United Nations General Assembly Zionism is Racism resolution; and if she will make a statement.

The Prime Minister

I have not received any recent representations concerning the overturning of United Nations General Assembly resolution 3379. I refer my hon. Friend to my answer to his previous question.
