HC Deb 28 October 1988 vol 139 c432W
Mr. Amess

To ask the Prime Minister what recent representations she has made to the Government of the USSR concerning the case of Raoul Wallenberg; and if she will make a statement.

The Prime Minister

I refer my hon. Friend to the answer I gave on 28 July to his question about Mr. Wallenberg.

The head of our delegation to the Vienna CSCE meeting referred to the unresolved questions surrounding Mr. Wallenberg's fate in a speech to delegates on 16 September. The leader of the American and Canadian delegations spoke in similar terms.

We continue to hope that the expressions of international concern about Mr. Wallenberg's fate, and increasing openness about the past in the Soviet Union itself, will make it possible for the Soviet authorities to give a full and frank account of the facts of the case.
