HC Deb 28 October 1988 vol 139 cc425-6W
Dr. Thomas

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what authorisations were sought by Air Canada between November 1987 and June 1988 to import 27 tonnes of toxic wastes, including PCBs, on its aircraft into the United Kingdom; and which airports were used for these imports.

Mrs. Virginia Bottomley

No specific authorisations are required for the import of wastes from Canada but there are pre-notification procedures under Canadian law and our own Control of Pollution (Special Waste) Regulations 1980. All consignments of waste shipped by Air Canada during the period November 1987 to June 1988 came into Heathrow airport.
