HC Deb 28 October 1988 vol 139 c444W
Mr. Gareth Wardell

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what proportion of the final cost of the construction of the new bridge over the River Loughor is to be met by his Department; and what is his latest estimate of the sum involved.

Mr. Wyn Roberts

The Loughor bridge schemes including western approaches have been accepted for transport supplementary grant support since 1985–86 at the rate of 50 per cent. on estimated eligible expenditure: mainly land and works costs. Each year's grant settlement is based on the county's estimate of expenditure on all schemes accepted for grant support, with adjustment made for any net underspending in the previous two years. It is not therefore possible to attribute final grant receipts accurately to individual schemes, but on the present estimated cost of these schemes, TSG should not exceed £4.5 million.
